• Get Cozy at Maven

Cold weather lovers rejoice! It seems as though the scorching hot days of summer are officially over for another year as we mosey on into autumn.

Fall is my favorite time of year. It is a transformation of sorts. Autumn shows us how beautiful it can be to let things go. There is a great quote from The Great Gatsby that states: “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”

These words resonate with me because I am always looking for the chance of renewal. There is something so therapeutic about cleaning out your stuff, purging all the things you don’t use or don’t need. I know I am definitely in the minority but I really enjoy cleaning out closets! It feels good to donate items to people who really need them, and it de-clutters my space, and ultimately my life.

Of course the upside of getting rid of old stuff is that you will need to replace it with the new! That’s where Maven comes in. As the weather gets cooler, it’s time to start preparing for chilly nights with warm blankets and soft, luscious pillows. It’s time to transition from summer to autumn, and these are some pieces we love and recommend for making this adjustment successful.

Velvets are easily the most sumptuous fabric known to man. Square Feathers, one of my favorite lines we carry in the store and online, has so many great options for incorporating velvet into your design style. Perfect as bedroom decorative pillows or as couch cushions for a night spent at home, lazing luxuriously on lounges.

The Ming Birch pillow, shown here in black and emerald, is effortlessly modern as it updates the classic stripe pattern into a contemporary elegant pillow. With several color options and sizes available, you can cater this cushion to fit your style, and add a pop of color anywhere!

But if one stripe of velvet isn’t enough, Square Feathers also makes a luscious Vintage Velvet pillow, shown here in a deep purple and blush. Several color choices and sizes are accessible. This pretty pillow features velvet covers that are soft and luxurious to the touch. Each pillow is filled with down that provides enough support for your head as you relax.

Man cannot cuddle with pillows alone. Throw blankets are essential for warming up cool nights and breezy mornings. They bring style and comfort to your armchair or bed. Pine Cone Hill has a wide selection of throw blankets that help you achieve maximum coziness for fall. The Cozy Knit Linen Throw, made of 100% cotton, comes in ten color options, making it easy to coordinate with any room.

Another warm and comfy throw from Pine Cone Hill is the classic Selke Fleece Throw. These throws are made with microfiber knitting and a polishing technique for the ultimate coziness factor, perfect for snuggling or afternoon naps. These are easily the softest throw blankets I've ever encountered. Available in seventeen different color choices, you’re sure to find one to fit your style!

There’s nothing better than crawling into bed at the end of a long day, especially if your bedding is as inviting and comfortable as PomPom at Home’s Brussels Coverlet. Offered in seven different soft, stone washed colors, this sophisticated line has a diamond-quilted pattern on the front and is made of 100% stone washed cotton velvet.

Our cozy collection wouldn’t be complete without a fur throw (faux of course!) Soft and lush with the perfect amount of sumptuous fluff, the Pom Pom at Home Eva throw blanket offers tempting texture to sofas and seats in sumptuous faux fur. This luxurious layer proves essential in a neutral sand hue or bright winter white.

Whether you’re the first one in the kitchen preparing pumpkin-inspired dishes at the mere mention of autumn, or still in denial about having to put away your flip-flops and swimsuit for another year, there’s no doubt that the changing season is upon us.

It’s time to discover which part of yourself you’d like to embrace and expand upon, and which parts of your summer skin you’d like to shed. Here at Maven, we say bring on those turning leaves, cozy sweaters and that nostalgic chill!

    Happy Fall y’all!

  • Green is the New Black!

The psychology of color and the feelings they evoke has always fascinated me. Fast food restaurants choose orange and yellow to evoke happiness and stimulate hunger. Social media accounts use blue to represent dependability and trustworthiness. White projects purity while black can be authoritative and powerful.

When decorating or renovating your home, color can unintentionally affect your emotional state. For instance, a bright red wall would not be suitable for a bedroom since red stimulates energy and increases blood pressure, respiration, heartbeat, and pulse. Not very relaxing for a good night’s sleep!
It should come as no surprise to any of our patrons that we love the color green! Our building, front door, store lampposts, mirrors, and many of our design projects have featured this luscious color.

Fun facts about the color green; it occupies more space in the spectrum visible to the human eye in most colors, and is second only to blue as a favorite color. Green is the pervasive color in the natural world, which makes it an ideal backdrop in interior design since we are so used to seeing it everywhere.
Green symbolizes growth, freshness, serenity, and healing and also has a strong emotional correspondence to safety and balance. The effects of the color green can help alleviate depression, nervousness, and anxiety, making it an ideal shade for a soothing master bedroom retreat. It can offer a sense of renewal, self-control, and harmony, perfect for the family kitchen where most of your life takes place.
When choosing to decorate with green, the possibilities are endless! From a pea-green kitchen to a bath in lime stripes, you can utilize this lively and refreshing color in any room of your house.
I’ve curated a collection of our greenest spaces in the store and from our clients’ design projects, along with tips for how to incorporate this sprightly hue with your own decorating style!
Come on in!  Inviting, fun, and a little funky, this bright emerald green is a great color choice for the front door.

Our front counter is adorned with a green accent wall, and our signature golden elephant! This helps to create a feel-good atmosphere in our store, perfect for selecting just the right thing for your home!
These adorable vintage chairs are a beautiful addition to this bright dining room. You can snag items like these chairs at your local antique mall or flea market. New chartreuse cushions make the room super cheerful, and give new life back to the chairs.
A set of Barbara Cosgrove Foo Dog lamps with custom color shades looks incredible next to neutral bedding. Square Feathers pillows in the same hue make this bed calming and restful. Katie Ridder fabric in a custom made bolster complete the bed. All items available in the store!
Moss Studio's Plymouth sofa with a ruffled skirt in custom fabric make this one of the coziest and bright sofas I've ever seen! Decorated with coordinating hot pink pillows give it a cool edge, perfect for a little girl's room!

This GORGEOUS chandelier from Cyan in a bright green is the perfect ornamental detail for this rustic farmhouse table. Bar stools in a matching hue elevate your dining experience to new heights!
Pops of color should be incorporated everywhere! These cherries in a citrine lacquer with a bright brass etched stem are great stand-alone sculptures on your dining table or kitchen island... or sitting on top of a stack of books on your coffee table.
Custom drapes are a smart investment that can add serious drama to any room. Seen here in a plush velvet from Schumacher Fabrics, this amazing kelly green is such a stunner. We can help you with all of your drapery needs!
Creating a serene space is necessary for the bedroom. Pine Cone Hill's Fern Duvet cover and sheet set transport nature indoors! Lacefield pillows add a pop of neon.

This beautiful and bright lake house wouldn't be complete without these Manuel Canavos custom drapes. The clients' chairs get a facelift with new ID Collections upholstery.
Even Maven's adorable little greeter is getting into it! Let the soothing shades of green help create stability and inspire possibility!
Have a great week, and don't forget to go green!

  • Maven in Motion

It is hard to believe that another summer has come and gone, but what a crazy summer it has been for us here at Maven!
We have been blessed with so many amazing projects this summer that made us forget the 100+ degree weather outside, except for the day the air conditioning went out in the workroom. It was a very sweaty day for interior design.
One of my favorite projects we have been working on this summer has to be the office. We were tasked with furnishing and designing an entire floor of an office space, complete with a kitchenette and a common area. This has been in the works for a few months and it has been awesome to see it all come together. The planning and preparation for this project has been a challenge but such a fun process.
It was a neat progression to see our plans come to life. Part of our design process is creating a mockup for our clients. People are generally visual, so it helps to create a two-dimensional depiction of what the spaces will look like.
Below are some side-by-side pictures of our initial plans, and the actual outcome in the space!

One of my favorite parts of the office has to be the six custom burl wood desks made for each individual office. They give the setting a Mad Men inspired feel, also adding functionality and cohesiveness to the entire floor.

Colorful artwork and funky furniture pieces were key to making our clients feel less like corporate drudges in every other office and more like a group of people working together for the greater good, in a unique and stylish space!
The kitchenette is fully functional with a dishwasher, refrigerator and storage space. We chose a white, modern, marble, round table from Minimal and Modern for dining, with contemporary black chairs that compliment our motif of black, white, and green.

We are nearing completion, and I can’t wait to show you the finished product! Stay tuned for more updates on one of my favorite projects!
